Toad’s head has been the subject of heated discussions for years, with some fans arguing that the Mushroom Kingdom character was wearing a mushroom shaped hat while others saying that this “hat” was in fact part of his body.
The hat theory was given ammunitionz by the Super Mario Bros. Super Show in which we saw Toad take out the mushroom part of his head like you would a hat and even use it as a parachute on another occasion.
We finally got the answer to this question earlier this year when Yoshiaki Koizumi, producer of Super Mario Odyssey, answered it in a YouTube video in which he was asked rapid fire questions about Super Mario Odyssey and Mario in general. In the video, after being asked whether Toad’s mushroom head was a hat or part of his head, Koizumi answered:
So that, as it turns out… is actually Toad’s Head. I’m going to have to leave it to all of you to figure out exactly how that works out. Maybe there’s something inside…
So there you have it, the top part of Toad’s head is indeed his head and not a hat. Koizumi also hints that something might even be inside it, whether that’s Toad’s brain or something else is a mystery for another time.
