While some of the conversation during Far Cry 5’s review cycle might have been focused on the game’s potential political message or lack thereof, once the game was released it was well received by critics and the controversy was mostly put to rest. However, questions still remained about how successful the game would be once it hit the shelves. Well, according to the March 2018 NPD data Ubisoft’s latest open world sandbox seems to have not only resonated with critics, but also with consumers as the game became the bestselling game of 2018. This is especially surprising considering that Far Cry 5 came out on March 27, which means the game reached the top of the 2018 chart with less than one week on the market.
Another notable entry on the list of the 10 bestselling games of the year so far is Rare’s Sea of Thieves, which received mixed reviews, but seems to have reached a wide audience.
