While attending the Midwest Gaming Classic event, Billy Mitchell has issued his first public statement responding to the cheating controversy that led to his banishment from Twin Galaxies and the loss of all his Guinness records.

When asked by Old School Gamer Magazine to address the recent events, Mitchell defended himself saying that everything had been done « according to the rules ». He added that the matter was currently under investigation and that the investigation would go as far back as 35 years ago to help provide documents and witnesses that would validate his claims.

Last week Twin Galaxies removed all of Billy Mitchell’s records after an investigation revealed that the arcade gamer had obtained his Donkey Kong record score on a Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator (MAME) which is against the rules. Not only were his Donkey Kong scores and records removed, but all of his other records as well, including his perfect Pac-Man game. Following the announcement, the Guiness also decided to remove all of Mitchell’s records from their book.

Here is Michell’s full statement:

I am Billy Mitchell. We are here at the Midwest Gaming Classic. I’m here with Old School Gamer Magazine.

The fact of the matter is, now there is a true professional due diligence being done to investigate things that happened as far as 35 years ago. In a professional manner, not in a shock jock mentality designed to create hit. We will show that everything that has been done, everything was done professionally, according to the rules, according to the score board the integrity that was set up. Not 2014 forward by the current regime who wants to reach back 35 years. Everything will be transparent. Everything will be available. I wish I had it in my hands right now. I wish I could hand it to you, but it’s taking a considerable amount of time. Witnesses, documents, everything will be made available to you. Nothing will be withed, you absolutely have my commitment to that.

We’ve been at this since 1982 and it’s not gonna stop now.
